How much does solar panel cleaning cost in Tarragona? What affects the price
There is no single rate: the price depends on six factors. We explain what they are and how to work out, using official data, whether cleaning pays off for you.

Quick summary
- The price of cleaning solar panels depends mainly on the number of panels, roof access and how dirty they are.
- In Tarragona, each kWp installed produces about 1,583 kWh a year according to the European Commission's official PVGIS tool [1].
- Worldwide, soiling causes an average loss of 3–5% of production [2], and considerably more in dusty areas or where there are birds.
- With these figures you can work out in a minute how much money you are losing and whether cleaning pays off.
It is the second question we are asked most often as a solar panel cleaning company in Tarragona, right after "how often should they be cleaned?". The honest answer is that there is no single price: cleaning 8 panels on a house in Reus with access from a terrace is not the same as cleaning 400 panels on the metal roof of a warehouse on an industrial estate in Valls.

The six factors that set the price
- Number of panels. This is the main factor: more surface means more working hours and more purified water.
- Access and height. A roof reachable from a terrace does not need the same equipment as a roof eight metres up. Temporary work at height is regulated and requires specific equipment such as a lifeline, harness or aerial work platform [3].
- Type of roof. Tiles, metal sheet, fibre cement or a flat roof change how we move around and work safely.
- How dirty it is. Fine dust, Saharan dust mud, droppings or lichen are not cleaned the same way or in the same time.
- Location. Travel to Tarragona city, the Camp de Tarragona area, Barcelona or Lleida affects the cost.
- Frequency. An installation that is cleaned regularly builds up less dirt, so each visit is usually quicker than a one-off clean after years without maintenance.
Is it worth it? Do the maths
The most objective way to decide is to compare the cost of cleaning with the energy you are losing. You need three figures:
- Your installation's power in kWp (shown in your contract or inverter app).
- Expected production: in Tarragona, with south-facing panels at 38° and 14% system losses, PVGIS estimates about 1,583 kWh a year per kWp [1].
- The price per kWh on your electricity bill (or what you are paid for surplus energy).
For example, a warehouse or large home with 10 kWp would produce about 15,830 kWh a year. This is what would be lost at different levels of soiling:
| Soiling loss | Energy lost per year (10 kWp) |
|---|---|
| 5% | ≈ 790 kWh |
| 10% | ≈ 1,580 kWh |
| 15% | ≈ 2,375 kWh |
An indicative calculation using PVGIS data for Tarragona. Multiply the energy lost by the price per kWh on your bill to see how much money it represents. Your installation may have a different orientation, tilt or shading.
The larger the installation, the sooner cleaning pays off: in industrial or agricultural installations, the energy recovered usually far exceeds the cost of the service.
